Day 12 – Buda or Pest?

The day got off to a fantastic start as we decided to use the spa facilities on offer at the hotel. On the rooftop there is an indoor and outdoor pool and fitness suite with a gym and sauna. I decided to use them in the following order: gym, sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi. I had a nice time in all of them. I would have taken a photo but I was wet due to the water so here’s a promotional shot from their site…

After grabbing some lunch from a nearby place that sold lunch it was time to head out to the sights. They say you learn something new everyday and they weren’t wrong. Usually I am a wealth of knowledge and often impart this knowledge on Tiff at several intervals during the day. However, this time she shared a very interesting fact with me and one which at first I suspected to be a lie. I didn’t realise that the word Budapest was actually two places either side of the River Danube, Buda and Pest and we were currently residing in Pest and not Budapest. Interesting stuff I know. So we decided to have a walk along the Danube and see some of the sights. First up was the Hungarian Parliament which I found out they based on Westminster…

I thought it looked more like they based it on Hogwarts but I wouldn’t know because I haven’t really seen Harry Potter and don’t really like it. It’s just Daniel Ratcliffes acting, I can’t get past it. A little further down to Danube was the famous shoe memorial for the Jews killed during the war. Apparently at this point they were made to take their shoes off before they were shot into the water during ww2. It was pretty harrowing and Tiff got a little upset and said she felt sorry for the Jews this holiday…

After that little bit of history we stopped for lunch along the river where I took another fantastic panoramic…

After this we headed back to the hotel for a rooftop sunbathe but on the way stumbled across St Stephens Basillica…

I can’t take credit for this photo as Tiff took it but if I’d have taken on it would most likely have been even better. We then got a quick selfie…

On the way back there was an old out of tune piano on the street so I smashed out some Beatles on it…

After a lovely spot of sunbathing it was time to head out for dinner and drinks and meet our friends Gregg and Rachel who were also in Budapest this week. I received this text from Gregg and knew we were in for a big one on the town…

He was so pleased to see us I could just tell…

We went to several lovely bars and enjoyed several lovely drinks. A thoroughly good time was had by all, so much so that I didn’t take many photos on account of the fact we were having such a wonderful time. I did get one though…

And this one of Tiff carrying all the beers…

I don’t remember much after this point other than being told off for playing on a piano in the middle of a bar by a middle aged, hook nosed, grey haired, big t-shirt wearing son of a gun.

I don’t remember getting home.
